The Mission

The new cargo bike-sharing offer aimed to establish a way to explore Spittal an der Drau in a sustainable and family-friendly manner. Visitors to the town can leave their cars at home, take the train, and explore all the sights. What makes this unique is that the cargo bikes are customizable and offer space for the entire family.

The goal of the project was to develop a communication and design concept, along with an appropriate name. In addition, a visual identity consisting of a logo, mascot, colors, fonts, and design elements needed to be created. Furthermore, all bike wrappings and a website for booking the bikes were to be designed. Lastly, we were tasked with developing and managing the social media channels.

The Process

During the development process of the design and communication concept, we first focused on the target audience, which consists of families with two to four small children. Based on this insight, core values such as togetherness, adventure, and freedom were established, which were to be visualized throughout the design.

After exploring various requirements for the brand name, such as its registrability, we were able to begin developing the narrative. This culminated in the charming “FamilienFlitzer” and its accompanying mascot “Flitzi,” offering an adventurous and eco-friendly way to explore Spittal an der Drau. The story revolves around Flitzi, a friendly ghost who knows all the best spots in the city and is eager to share them with the adventurers riding along.

The Result

In close collaboration with the client, a visual identity was developed based on the brand story, conveying themes of togetherness, exploration, and lightness, effectively resonating with the target audience. This was achieved through soft yet impactful colors, as well as typography that is both friendly and modern while being versatile in its application. The mascot, Flitzi, was also brought to life, embodying characteristics such as friendliness, playfulness, and trustworthiness.

Next, additional design elements were created to meet the specific needs of various applications. These were then integrated with the existing elements to form a cohesive design system. Building on this foundation, all assets—including bike branding, social media designs, and the project website—were finalized.
